This booklet contains general guidance on Diet, Language and Names of such different groups as Baha'is, Chinese, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Vietnamese and many other faiths and communities.

Each section gives a short general introduction and information on such matters as birth and death and associated practices, family planning, notions of modesty and perceptions of medical and social services, as well as assumptions concerning illness itself.

This sixth edition has been prepared in consultation with local religious and cultural groups and their related organisations, and where relevant, with health professionals.

A revised section on Christians, and additions relating to Ahmadiyya, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Zoroastrianism, Jains and Pagans have now been included.

The booklet seeks only to draw its readers' attention to some salient points relevant to their work practices.
